Ballet Dance classes in Weymouth

Ballet classes are where most of QTA's dancers start, and it's easy to understand why. Ballet is the foundation for every other type of dance.

We follow the ISTD syllabus, and have a 100% exam pass rate.

What we teach in our ballet classes

We build our ballet lessons on proper technique from day one: posture, placement and control, taught in a way that suits the students at each level.

We begin by patiently coaching the youngest dancers in our nursery ballet class to learn the basics, and raise the level of complexity through the grades so lessons continue to challenge dancers working towards Intermediate and Advanced grades.

Alongside the physical steps, dancers learn to actually listen to the music they're dancing to, picking out the phrasing and dynamics rather than just counting beats.

Making ballet lessons fun

Ballet can sometimes be seen as stuffy, but that’s not true in the ballet classes at our Weymouth dance studio! We work hard to make our lessons fun, as well as teaching the movement, posture and control that will stand our students in good stead for all their other dance lessons with us.

What this class builds

Technique and control, and a real ear for musical interpretation.

Pre-Pointe classes

Our Pre-Pointe class is where the groundwork for pointe work happens, well before a dancer puts a pointe shoe on. The class focuses on strengthening the feet, ankles and legs, alongside the kind of foot flexibility that pointe work needs. It's a deliberately gradual class, building the strength safely rather than rushing a dancer towards pointe before their body is ready for it.

What this class builds

Foot, ankle and leg strength, laying the groundwork for the actual pointe work to come.

Pointe classes

Pointe is where years of ballet training really start to pay off.

Our pointe class works through the syllabus pointe work itself, alongside the specific strengthening that pointe work demands. This means that dancers are building the foundation and doing the work on it at the same time, rather than one after the other.

Pointe work is incorporated into ISTD exams from Grade 6 Ballet onwards, so it sits as a natural next step for dancers who are ready for it, rather than an optional extra bolted on.

What this class builds

The strength and technique for safe, syllabus-based pointe work.

Modern Ballet

Depending on their ability and workload, students may have the opportunity to prepare a modern ballet solo/duet/trio for festivals.
